About Kardashev2
Mission
Kardashev2 is a mission workspace for tracking humanity's progress toward becoming a spacefaring civilization. We explore convergent pathways across infrastructure, energy systems, and resource utilization—without hype or dogma.
Our approach: Open logs. Tight loops. Real progress.
Methodology
We apply evidence-based analysis to space technology development:
- Track only verifiable milestones with measurable impact
- Maintain exploratory status until evidence confirms viability
- Update assessments as new data becomes available
- Reject hype in favor of physics and engineering reality
- Focus on convergent technologies that enable multiple pathways
Framework
The Kardashev Scale measures civilizations by their energy utilization:
- Type I
- Planetary civilization harnessing all available energy on their home planet
- Type II
- Stellar civilization capable of harnessing the total energy of their star
- Type III
- Galactic civilization with access to the energy of an entire galaxy
Humanity currently ranks at approximately 0.73 on this scale. Kardashev2 tracks our progress toward Type II status.
Contributing
This is an open mission. Contributions welcome:
- Submit evidence for pathway status updates
- Propose new convergent technologies to track
- Provide analysis of milestone achievements
- Correct errors in our assessments
